The other day a really great friend of mine and I were talking (nothing new) and the subject of house cleaning came up - and as anyone who knows me knows I happen to enjoy a clean house. Anywho, I was told I have or could have OCD ?? HU WHAT? Because I am "obsessive and compulsive about having a clean house - This being brought to my attention made me start thinking and thinking LOL - Oh my word - Could I be "one of them"? Am I seen as some side show because the home I reside in has to be "Mindy clean"? Oh NO! ?
Well, I did a little research on line to find out just what OCD is. And from what I have found it's this:
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
People with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) suffer from unwanted and intrusive thoughts that they can't seem to get out of their heads (obsessions), often compelling them to repeatedly perform ritualistic behaviors and routines (compulsions) to try and ease their anxiety. Most people who have OCD are aware that their obsessions and compulsions are irrational, yet they feel powerless to stop them. Some spend hours at a time performing complicated rituals involving hand-washing, counting, or checking to ward off persistent, unwelcome thoughts, feelings, or images.
Obsessions — unwanted intrusive thoughts
* Constant, irrational worry about dirt, germs, or contamination. Nope not me
* Excessive concern with order, arrangement, or symmetry. Somewhat me
* Fear that negative or aggressive thoughts or impulses will cause personal harm or harm to a loved one. Good gracious not me
* Preoccupation with losing or throwing away objects with little or no value. Hu?
* Excessive concern about accidentally or purposefully injuring another person. Not me again
* Feeling overly responsible for the safety of others. Far from that
* Distasteful religious and sexual thoughts or images. Nope again
* Doubting that is irrational or excessive. Hmmm?
Compulsions — ritualistic behaviors and routines to ease anxiety or distress
* Cleaning — Repeatedly washing one’s hands, bathing, or cleaning household items, often for hours at a time. Um nope
* Checking — Checking and re-checking several to hundreds of times a day that the doors are locked, the stove is turned off, the hairdryer is unplugged, etc. Ha to lazy for that
* Repeating — Inability to stop repeating a name, phrase, or simple activity (such as going through a doorway over and over). Nope again
* Hoarding — Difficulty throwing away useless items such as old newspapers or magazines, bottle caps, or rubber bands. I know people like this but I'm NOT one of them
* Touching and arranging Nope once again
* Mental rituals — Endless reviewing of conversations, counting; repetitively calling up “good” thoughts to neutralize “bad” thoughts or obsessions; or excessive praying and using special words or phrases to neutralize obsessions. Ahhh no
Obsessions and rituals associated with obsessive-compulsive disorder can interfere with a person's normal routine, schoolwork, job, family, or social activities. Several hours every day may be spent focusing on obsessive thoughts and performing seemingly senseless rituals. Trying to concentrate on daily activities may be difficult. Left untreated, OCD can interfere with all aspects of life.
House cleaning is a small PART of my life NOT all or much of it. Sure I like to clean but not all day EVERYDAY. I just see it like this - Respect and take care of what you have or it will soon be destroyed. I just happen to like relaxing in a clean well kept home ~ I mean quite honestly I don't know how some people can lay around in a messy unkept place and just lay there like... "What?"". I, like my mother can't "relax" when I KNOW that the house doesn't look as it should. I can't "relax" when I know the garbage is over flowing, cookie crumbs are mashed in the carpet or when you can't fit another dirty dish in the sink when the counter top piled with so much stuff that you can't even see it anymore. I just like having a kept home so that if anyone pops in without warning I wont be embarrassed at them seeing my house in a mess. Having a clean house to me is one less thing to worry about - I have better things to do than vacuum, sweep, and haul trash to the dumpster. If that is viewed as OCD where do I sign? Cause I'm down like four flats with that title. I'll wear it proudly and say it loudly.
Now cleaning and detailing my ride - YES I am VERY OCD when it comes to the G-Ride - she's mine and a representation of me :) Last thing I want are my passengers to have to move Taco Bell, Burger King bags and trash out of the way just to find a spot to sit. How embarrassing that would be

Quote of the day: Lets not take motivation for OCD shall we not?
